The Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah has discussed the enactment of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024, highlighting the removal of the Jury System as a significant reform aligned with President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s manifesto promises.

He made the statement at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s Press Conference.

He clarified that this move aims to align Sierra Leone’s judicial system with other African nations, adding that over 95% of cases in the justice system do not include a Jury and that the amended law only reserved the Jury System for the death penalty.

Meanwhile, On the 5th of July 2024, the Sierra Leone Parliament passed the Criminal Procedure Act 2024, which abolished the jury system.

Minister Bah assured the public that the country’s justice system is on track and there is no cause for alarm as the Criminal Procedure Act 2024 in its entirety, is good for the nation.
