In a move to boost digital literacy in schools, Information and Civic Education Minister Chernor Bah has played a pivotal role in securing a donation of digital learning kits for two primary schools in Kanikay, Freetown.
The donation, facilitated by Orange Sierra Leone through its foundation, aligns with the government’s focus on enhancing education in underprivileged areas.
The two beneficiary schools, Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Primary School and Bishop Crowther Memorial Primary School, received a range of digital tools aimed at improving students’ access to technology.
The donation includes tablets, laptops, headsets, smart projectors, power banks, Bluetooth speakers, and more, equipping the schools to integrate digital learning into their curriculum.
Chernor Bah, who has deep roots in the Kanikay community, underscored the importance of supporting local educational institutions.
He expressed gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone for backing President Julius Maada Bio’s vision of improving education across the country, noting that this initiative will have a lasting impact on the students’ academic futures.
“Orange is one of the most significant contributors to our nation’s development, and their continued investment in education is a direct support to the President’s vision and our community,” Bah said, addressing the gathering at the donation ceremony.
The Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone, Sekou Amadou Bah, emphasized that the goal is to equip more schools with digital learning tools, ensuring that students from less privileged backgrounds can acquire the skills necessary in today’s digital world.
“Our objective is to provide children with the resources they need to succeed in a digital age,” he remarked.
Minister Bah, an alumnus of Bishop Crowther Memorial Primary School, also took a moment to reflect on the school’s influence on his personal and professional development, inspiring students to pursue their dreams.
“This school has shaped who I am today. I owe a great deal to Bishop Crowther, and I hope that today’s students will one day say the same,” he added.
The event also highlighted the support of local leaders and community members in advocating for better educational opportunities for children in the area.
Minister Bah expressed appreciation for their efforts, reinforcing the significance of collaboration in driving positive change for the community.
