‘The Ministry of Energy together with the Management of Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) wishes to inform the general public that the mandate of the Presidential Taskforce, which was established to inspect and monitor the appropriateness of all electrical installations with a view to combating illegal abstraction of electricity, has been suspended until further notice.
Consumers are hereby entreated to ensure that whosover visits their premises purporting to be members of the Presidential Taskforce should be considered as a fraudster and immediately reported to the nearest Police Station for questioning.
The Ministry of Energy and EDSA have also gathered intelligence that points to the fact that certain consumers are constantly engaged in the act of illegally abstracting electricity-an act which contravenes the National Electricity Act of 2011.
The Ministry as well as EDSA therefore wishes it to be known that robust actions, which include but not limited to the apprehension of those involved and the meting out of severe punishments, will be taken.
EDSA in particular would like to assure its valued customers of a stable, reliable sustainable supply of electricity, while in equal measure, expects consumers to pay their bills accordingly and refrain from all forms of electricity theft.”
