The Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has commented on the gains made by the government in the last five years ranging from 2018 to 2023.

The minister maintains that since the assumed power in 2018, it has been a very peaceful and good achievement in the world of sports in the country.

Highlighting the gains made, he maintained that, the government has spent billions of Leones in sports development in the country, especially on the National Team ‘Leone Star’ which subsequently viewed the qualification of the team and country to the African Nations Cup for the first time in twenty-five years.

He added that the Sierra Leone Premier League is playing successfully and the emergence of the Female Premier League in the country for the first time in history are all successes made by the government in the last five years.

“We know football and other sporting disciplines will not be able to make the required breakthrough if we do not provide the necessary infrastructure. This has led to the government partnering with the People’s Republic of China to take a full-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation of the national stadium for the first time since 1979,” he maintained.

The minister then called on SLFA to discuss and focus on things that will improve the spirit of the game and total development in the country.
