The Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, has joined the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Sierra Leone to mark the Kingdom’s 95th National Day. The event was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown on 23rd September 2025.
The celebration highlighted the diplomatic and humanitarian ties between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia. Over the years, Saudi Arabia has supported Sierra Leone through initiatives such as the distribution of sacrificial meat (Qurbani) during Hajj, provision of Hajj slots and logistical support for pilgrims, and donations of dates during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, these annual contributions are directed to vulnerable communities, mosques, and orphanages across the country.
Mrs. Karminty’s participation in the ceremony was described as a reaffirmation of Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
