Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, a prominent figure within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and former National Organizing Secretary, visited the Ministry of Youth Affairs on Friday where he was received by Minister Ibrahim Sannoh.
The visit comes amidst widespread speculation that Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa is a leading contender for the upcoming National Chairman position of the SLPP.
During the visit, Minister Sannoh reportedly made remarks suggesting a transfer of focus towards grassroots engagement within the ministry, stating, “This is not a farewell. This is a power transfer to the people. To the grassroots. And to the future.”
Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa is known for his past roles, including Deputy Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), and is often referred to as the “Grassroots General” within the SLPP.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs is seen by some observers as a potentially strategic hub in the lead-up to the SLPP’s upcoming leadership elections. Minister Sannoh concluded by stating, “The grassroots have spoken. And the SLPP is rising from the ground up.”
