The Ministry of Energy has confirmed an incident that occurred on Friday, March 14, 2025, in Malal, Kambia District, affecting two CL Group Limited contractors.

The accident happened when a transmission pole the contractors were working on collapsed, causing both men—Abu Kamara and Abdulai Mustapha of CL Group Limited—to fall. They were installing transmission cables as part of a project to design, supply, install, and commission the distribution and transmission networks in Kambia Town.

Tragically, Kamara lost his life in the fall, while Mustapha sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Connaught Hospital in Freetown.

The Ministry of Energy has assured the public that an investigation will be conducted to determine whether the poles involved in the accident met the required safety and quality standards outlined in the contract awarded to CL Group Limited in August 2020.

The incident has raised concerns about safety standards and the quality of materials used in the ongoing infrastructure project. The Ministry’s investigation aims to prevent future occurrences and ensure that proper safety measures are strictly enforced.

As the investigation continues, the Ministry has extended its condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring worker safety in future projects.
