The Ministry Of Energy has made a statement following the fire incidents in Bo which involved the Bo Power Station on Thursday 13th April, 2023.

The Ministry also assured residents of Bo City and its environs that necessary technical steps have been taken to ensure the restoration of normal electricity supply within the shortest possible time.

The statement reads;

’The Ministry of Energy regrets to inform the general public that on Thursday 13 April,2023 between the hours of 10am and 11am,an unfortunate fire incident occurred at the Bo Power Station, Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone.

Through the coordinated efforts of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) and the National Fire Force, the raging fire was put out or extinguished after frantic fire fighting.

The Ministry is however pleased to inform the public that the inferno did not cause any serious material damage to the existing generation and transmission infrastructure.

While the actual cause of the fire outbreak will be established after full scale investigations, preliminary reports suggest that the cause of the conflagration could be attributed to an attempt to remove an obsolete Man engine from the powerhouse to make way for the installation of a 6MW diesel thermal diesel generator.

The Ministry of Energy is not unaware of the need to speedily investigate the incident as well as the inconveniences that residents of Bo City would have to endure as a result of the incident.

The Ministry of Energy would like to assure residents of Bo City and its environs that necessary technical steps have been taken to ensure the restoration of normal electricity supply within the shortest possible time.

The End’.
