The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has requested an increase in staff to better manage its growing foreign policy responsibilities.
This appeal was made during the Manpower Planning and Budget session at the Civil Service Training College, hosted by the Human Resources Management Office (HRMO).
Director General and Ambassador-at-Large, Dr. Victoria M. Sulimani, highlighted that with 26 missions to oversee, the current workforce is insufficient. The ministry aims to strengthen Sierra Leone’s global engagements and enhance its diplomatic presence.
Additionally, Dr. Sulimani addressed the ongoing issue of 421 Sierra Leonean migrants stranded in Niger, requiring verification and assistance. The MFAIC is working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to facilitate their safe return.
The ministry’s request reflects its commitment to addressing foreign policy challenges and supporting the government’s international relations goals.
Increasing staff at the Foreign Ministry with the burgeoning public sector wage bill, Mdm Sulimani? Surely with technology the staffing challenge in the Foreign Service can be managed.
