The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced a trial activation of new traffic signals at seven major intersections across Freetown, part of ongoing efforts to address vehicular congestion and enhance pedestrian safety.
This measure, starting today, will evaluate the performance of recently installed signals at critical junctions, including Lumley Regent Road, Lumley Beach Road, Lumley Police Station, Aberdeen Road, Murray Town Junction, Congo Cross, and Ferry Junction.
The trial phase will run from November 2 to November 10, during which the Ministry will conduct phased signal activations to assess traffic flow and ensure proper compliance. Between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., all seven intersections will have their signals fully operational. During the daytime from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., however, only Aberdeen Road, Murray Town Junction, Congo Cross, and Ferry Junction will remain active.
Officials acknowledge the inconvenience faced by motorists and residents during previous trial phases and have emphasized their commitment to addressing operational and social issues. The Ministry aims to ensure a seamless adoption of the traffic signals, promising further public education and necessary adjustments to optimize the initiative’s impact.
The Transport Ministry is appealing for cooperation from the public, encouraging drivers, riders, and pedestrians to remain patient during this transition.
These street traffic lights is no way helpful… it’s a complete waste of resources… causing a lot of traffic congestion and wasting people’s time and fuel ..
Nice…
