The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs organized and facilitated a three days ecotourism field trip to Bo, for students from Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) from May 9th to 11th, 2025.
Notably, the initiative supported the Ministry’s 2025 focus on integrating culture, conservation, and community engagement in Southern Sierra Leone.
The trip included a visit to Tiwai Island Sanctuary, where students gained practical insights into biodiversity and wildlife protection. The hands-on experience aimed to enhance their understanding of ecotourism and its significance.
During the trip, the Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh, spoke about the Ministry’s efforts to promote ecotourism awareness. He outlined various initiatives designed to foster eco-consciousness among citizens and encourage sustainable tourism practices.
Students also visited notable sites such as the Bo Clock Tower, Bo School, Njala University, and Bush Garden, which contributed to their educational experience by highlighting the region’s historical and cultural significance.
