The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) has taken a significant step in its multi-year strategy to rebrand Sierra Leone as a premier cultural hub.

On Monday, January 19, 2026, Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis led the unveiling of the official logo for the 2026 Year of Culture and Creativity at the Ministry’s headquarters on King Harman Road, Freetown.

The initiative builds on the momentum of the 2024 “Tourism for All” campaign and the 2025 “Year of Ecotourism,” underscoring the government’s commitment to leveraging Sierra Leone’s heritage as a driver for economic growth and national unity.

According to Ministry officials, the newly unveiled logo is more than just a brand mark; it is a visual manifesto designed to reflect the core values of the 2026 initiative. The design highlights the country’s diverse ethnic and social fabrics, emphasizes the role of youth and women in the creative industries, and symbolizes Sierra Leone’s journey toward an innovative future.

The Year of Culture and Creativity is a powerful national declaration of who we are as a people,” Minister Tunis said during the ceremony. “It is about recognizing that our traditions, music, and arts are central to our peace and inclusive economic growth.”

The launch marks a milestone in the 2024–2030 National Development Plan. Following the recent return of sacred artifacts, such as the Nomoli, and the publication of the Creative Economy Diagnostic Report, the Ministry is positioning 2026 as a year when Sierra Leone’s “soft power” gains global recognition.
