The Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have begun the second phase of pre-trial sessions for thirteen RSLAF personnel, following their alleged involvement in the failed coup d’état of November 26, 2023.

The proceedings commenced on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the RSLAF Court Martial located at Wilkinson Road, Cockerill Barracks, Freetown, after the completion of the Commanding Officers’ Investigations (COI).

The accused personnel face a range of serious charges connected to the subversion of the state.

These charges include mutiny, failure to suppress mutiny, desertion, aiding the enemy, communicating with the enemy, and conduct prejudicial to military discipline, among others.

These offenses, if proven, represent severe breaches of military duty and the constitutional order.

The MOD’s Public Relations and Information Unit has assured the public that updates on the court martial proceedings will be provided regularly.

For further information or clarification, citizens are encouraged to contact the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Ministry of Defence or the Staff Officer Grade 2 Media Operations at the Joint Force Command headquarters.

This second court martial is seen as a crucial step in addressing the alleged coup attempt, ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for acts that threaten national security are held accountable under the law.
