President Brigadier (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio has announced the appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Foday Yumkella as Sierra Leone’s new Ambassador to Conakry, Guinea.
The appointment was confirmed in an official statement on February 24, 2025 from State House, signed by Dr. Emmanuel A.R. Gaima, Secretary to the President.
Ambassador Yumkella’s new role is expected to strengthen diplomatic relations between Sierra Leone and Guinea, fostering cooperation on key regional and bilateral matters.
Yumkella is not new to the role as He had previously served as the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to The Gambia for approximately four years.
During his tenure, he was recognized for his effective diplomacy and his ability to strengthen the relationship between Sierra Leone and The Gambia. He was praised for his competence, his role as a “true pan-Africanist,” and his ability to cultivate close ties with the Gambian people.
In 2018, Yumkella was also appointed Minister of Political and Public Affairs by President Julius Maada Bio.
