Following a successful pilot phase in Bo district in November 2023, the Ministry of Health (MoH), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, has initiated a nationwide rollout of the Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) mass distribution campaign.

The comprehensive four-day training program for 93 Independent Monitors began on January 29 and will continue until February 1, 2024.

Conducted at the Family Kingdom in Freetown, the training sessions involve joint facilitation by WHO, CRS, ICT4D, and the National Malaria Control Programme. The Independent Monitors will play a pivotal role in assessing household registration and distribution processes in communities, identifying unregistered households or communities, and evaluating awareness levels.

The critical phase of household registration is scheduled to take place from February 1 to February 10, 2024. Following this, the distribution of ITNs is set to commence on February 22, 2024. This nationwide initiative aims to enhance malaria prevention efforts and ensure widespread access to insecticide-treated nets across Sierra Leone.
