Former Minister of Social Welfare in the government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has lost his bid to become the Paramount Chief of Kpanga Chiefdom in Pujehun district. Alhaji Moijueh Kaikai was defeated by his brother Ibrahim Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, the father of the country’s Chief Immigration Officer.

On Monday 18th October, the contest was forced into a run-off when no candidate was able to get the required number to votes to become outright winner. All the 17 other candidates were eliminated leaving the race between Moijueh Kaikai and his elder brother.

According to results announced by the provincial administration, Andrew Ibrahim Jaiah Kaikai polled 309 votes while Moijueh Kaikai who led the race in the first round polled 179 votes.

Moijueh Kaikai in his post-election address to his supporters was very angry and ungracious in defeat especially directing his venom at those he claimed were bribed into voting against him. He disowned a Patrick Ansu Kaikai known as Cabrator who is seen as an elderly figure within the Kaikai family. He said he would never have dealings with him and would ignore him even if they meet in street saying he was no longer his brother.

Moijueh Kaikai once served in the previous APC government as Social Welfare Minister but got sacked after he went into a heated altercation with his deputy Mustapha Bai Atilla. Atilla was also dismissed over the incident.
