The Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor Esq, in response to the alarming rise of lawlessness and indiscipline across the country, convened a crucial stakeholder meeting to address the deteriorating situation and its potential implications for national security.
During the meeting, which was held on Monday, 7th April, 2025, Minister Lengor emphasized the Ministry’s core responsibility in enforcing law and providing internal security. He stated, “The effects of lawlessness and indiscipline on citizens’ sanity cannot be overemphasized.”
The Minister called for a collective, collaborative, and sustained effort to combat those issues, highlighting the need for proper definition and prioritization of key areas of concern.
“We should first define indiscipline and lawlessness and identify what should be done to address it,” he expressed, stating that “public education and sensitization are also key for the success of any intervention.”
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahr Senesie, also addressed the attendees, pointing out that lawlessness and indiscipline manifest visibly throughout the city. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts at various levels to combat those issues, noting, “the SLP has been in strategic partnership as a collective means to fight against lawlessness and indiscipline in the Country.”
Senesie highlighted the importance of identifying core issues, such as traffic law violations, to develop lasting solutions.
Participants from other institutional stakeholders echoed the Deputy Inspector General’s sentiments, underscoring that only through unified efforts can meaningful progress be made in curbing lawlessness and indiscipline.
The meeting concluded with a proposal for a media strategy campaign aimed at raising awareness and education around those issues. A series of tasks were assigned to specific stakeholders as preparations was said to begin with a follow-up meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 15th April, 2025.
Reportedly, it was agreed that additional key stakeholders, who were not present at the initial meeting, should be invited to participate in the next discussions.
The indiscipline starts with the SLP. They have no discipline themselves.
They are a part of the problem.
