In response to widespread rumors and social media speculations, the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers Union (MD&GTWU) has issued a press release reaffirming that it has no intentions of orchestrating a strike on Monday, September 11, 2023.

The union’s leadership has vehemently disassociated itself from any claims suggesting their involvement in such actions.

The press release issued by MD&GTWU reads:

“The Leadership of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union (MD&GTWU) is disclaiming all statements going viral on social media and social gathering spots about a proposed strike or sit-down action by all commercial transport (motor vehicles) drivers on Monday, September 11, 2023.

The Union would like to inform the general public that such statements are not coming from us and we are in no way associated with that.

The union is not an exception to industrial action, as we called it, but in an event of such, the union must have gone through all the due processes as it is supposed to be.

As for what is said to be on Monday, September 11, 2023, the Union is totally out of it and we are calling on all our members not to tow the line with any other person(s) to undermine the peace and stability of this nation.

On this note, we would like to assure the general public that commercial transport will be available at usual places and at stipulated cost without any hindrance to the free movement of people and properties
