In response to widespread rumors and social media speculations, the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers Union (MD>WU) has issued a press release reaffirming that it has no intentions of orchestrating a strike on Monday, September 11, 2023.
The union’s leadership has vehemently disassociated itself from any claims suggesting their involvement in such actions.
The press release issued by MD>WU reads:
“The Leadership of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union (MD>WU) is disclaiming all statements going viral on social media and social gathering spots about a proposed strike or sit-down action by all commercial transport (motor vehicles) drivers on Monday, September 11, 2023.
The Union would like to inform the general public that such statements are not coming from us and we are in no way associated with that.
The union is not an exception to industrial action, as we called it, but in an event of such, the union must have gone through all the due processes as it is supposed to be.
As for what is said to be on Monday, September 11, 2023, the Union is totally out of it and we are calling on all our members not to tow the line with any other person(s) to undermine the peace and stability of this nation.
On this note, we would like to assure the general public that commercial transport will be available at usual places and at stipulated cost without any hindrance to the free movement of people and properties
Hmmmm Salon man
Dem don tell una ohhh! Lonta!
APC plans to disturb the peace of this country. They will be disturbed permanently in all what they do at both individual and group levels.
This people are so called union they are doing nothing for us as drivers,in just one month the government have escalated Le 8,500 in pump price, why do they not come out with a press release expressing concernes of the drivers, now that we’ve filling the negative effect of the increments, we disided to do a peaceful sit at home strike so that the government will take notice of the infect we are filling off any further increments on fuel they want to debunked the rumors.Another problems of this union they never represent us in court when ever a driver has a minor traffic offense, rather the driver will go to jail, because there is no provisions of Lawyers in court for drivers. This are all responsibility off the unions.
Why alleging the APC of disturbing peace in this nation.. let stop such
