Sierra Leone’s National Public Health Agency (NPHA) on Friday provided its latest Mpox update, confirming that the total number of deaths attributed to the virus has now reached 20.
This grim milestone comes as the country recorded 33 new confirmed cases and 154 new recoveries as of 3:00 PM on Friday, June 6th, 2025.
The cumulative total of confirmed Mpox cases in the country stands at 3,737. While a significant 2,732 individuals have now recovered, bringing the active case count down to 985, the persistent increase in fatalities underscores the ongoing public health challenge posed by the virus.
The Western Urban district remains the hardest-hit area, accounting for the highest number of confirmed cases with 2,253. It is followed by Western Rural with 757 cases, and Port Loko with 125 cases. Other districts reporting notable numbers include Kenema (86), Bo (64), and Kono (47).
Regarding gender, confirmed cases show a slight predominance in males, with 1,956 male cases compared to 1,781 female cases.
