The Government of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health today released an update on the mpox situation, reporting 31 new confirmed cases as of 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
This brings the cumulative total of confirmed mpox cases in the country to 3,513.
The update also indicates a significant number of new recoveries, with 216 individuals having recuperated from the virus. The total number of recovered cases now stands at 2,017.
Currently, there are 1,479 active mpox cases across Sierra Leone. The total number of deaths attributed to mpox remains at 17.
A breakdown of confirmed cases by district shows that Western Urban continues to be the hardest-hit area with 2,152 cases, followed by Western Rural with 719 cases, and Port Loko with 108 cases. Other districts with notable case numbers include Bombali (194), Kenema (78), Kono (47), and Bo (48).
In terms of gender distribution, more males have been confirmed with mpox than females. The data shows 1,840 confirmed cases among males and 1,673 among females.
