The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs on Tuesday 30th July 2024 held a one-day staff capacity building workshop on Tourism, Environment, Wildlife and conservation, as a way of wrapping up activities for July’s Environmental Awareness for Eco-Tourism month in the Tourism for All Campaign.

The training is part of the Ministry’s capacity building efforts aligned with the Ministerial Performance Contract signed between the Minister Nabeela Tunis and President Julius Maada Bio.

Welcoming staff to the workshop, Permanent Secretary, Edward Kwame Yankson on behalf of the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis urged participants to make the best out of the training as it was part of the continuous efforts to ensure that staff are well equipped to promote tourism in their communities and beyond.

He continued that similar capacity building trainings will be held for the private sector including tour guides in the coming months.

The Tutor for the workshop, Charles Showers is an Expert in Conservation and a renowned Bird Watching guru. His presentation was centered around the Environment, Wildlife Conservation and Tourism in Sierra Leone capturing: the conservation, protected areas, wildlife, endangered species and sustainable tourism.

In the area of birdwatching, he explained about the shape of birds, values of birds, birdwatching techniques, equipment and ethics.
