The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has issued a public alert warning citizens about deceptive social media scams inviting Sierra Leoneans to “sign up” for a Le 1,300 social safety net program.
NaCSA has received troubling reports of these scams, which involve dishonest actors posing as NaCSA representatives and illegally collecting money and favors from vulnerable individuals. The commission emphasizes that this is an isolated incident and part of a growing scheme threatening the integrity of its social protection efforts.
In a statement released on July 31, 2025, NaCSA clarified several key points:
NaCSA does not request payments or favors from beneficiaries at any stage for targeting, enrollment, or payment.
All benefits are delivered exclusively through trusted payment service providers, not through social media links or personal intermediaries.
Any changes to NaCSA procedures will be communicated directly by the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) unit.
The commission urged every citizen to remain vigilant and to report any solicitations for money related to NaCSA benefits. Instead, individuals are advised to call the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) toll-free at 8515 or report to their local ACC Community Monitor, ACC official, or NaCSA district staff.
For verification of any communication, citizens can contact Umaru Samai, Project Officer, Information, Education, and Communication, at +232 77022709 or +232 76378993, or via email at [email protected].
Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Commissioner of NaCSA, reiterated the commission’s commitment to serving the people of Sierra Leone with honesty, transparency, and cooperation in line with national development aspirations. He thanked the public for their continued trust and cooperation, emphasizing that public vigilance is essential.
