The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, has been awarded the global title of Most Outstanding Personality in Public Insurance and Social Security in Africa by Bold Solution, under the auspices of the African Development Conference.

The award was presented at the 5th edition of the African Public Service Optimum Awards held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana, on Thursday, 18 December 2025.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr Daboh described the award as a recognition of collective effort and commitment to improving the lives of Sierra Leoneans through the NASSIT social insurance scheme. He paid tribute to the Board, management, and staff of the Trust for their continued support.

“This award does not belong to me alone; it also belongs to my team at NASSIT, the President, His Excellency Rtd. Brig. Gen. Julius Maada Bio, and the people of Sierra Leone,” he said.

Mr Daboh also thanked the organisers, Bold Solution, for the recognition, noting that it was the second time the institution had acknowledged NASSIT’s work. He described the award as motivation to further strengthen the Trust’s operations.

He disclosed that NASSIT is working to extend social security coverage to workers in the informal sector, who make up more than 80 percent of Sierra Leone’s workforce. He called on African governments to prioritise social protection systems as a key component of national development.

According to Mr Daboh, social security should be viewed as a strategic investment rather than an administrative obligation. He stressed the need for ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability, noting that public trust is central to the sustainability of social security systems.

He concluded by describing social security as a powerful tool for transformation in Africa, emphasizing that inclusive and well-managed systems can help ensure that no one is left behind.
