In response to the recent outage of the Internet subsea cable on August 4, 2024, the National Communications Authority (NatCA) has convened an emergency meeting to address the issue.

The meeting, which began on August 5 and is set to continue on August 6, is focused on formulating immediate short-term redundancy plans. Key participants include ACE Consortium member Zoodlabs, terrestrial fibre company Leonecom, mobile network operators (MNOs), and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

NatCA’s public notice indicated that the ongoing discussions aim to address both immediate and future connectivity challenges. The meeting will explore options for maintaining Internet connectivity through various alternatives, including the Terrestrial Fibre Backbone with Guinea, the 2 Africa cable, the Amilcar Cabral cable, and the Transco cable on the CLSG transmission line.

The authority is committed to ensuring reliable and robust Internet services and will continue to work with all stakeholders to resolve the current outage and enhance long-term connectivity solutions.
