The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has issued a directive mandating all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to verify and link their subscribers’ SIM cards with their respective National Identification Numbers (NINs).
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance digital security, improve regulatory oversight, and ensure proper identification of mobile users across Sierra Leone.
In a public notice dated 27th June 2025, NatCA urged all mobile consumers to visit the nearest service provider outlets to complete the verification or update process. The Authority emphasized that failure to comply by 1st October 2025 will result in service interruption for affected users.
Additionally, NatCA has warned the public to purchase SIM cards only from authorized MNO outlets, stating that the street sale of pre-registered or pre-activated SIM cards is strictly prohibited with immediate effect.
The Authority’s directive underscores its commitment to protecting consumer data, curbing fraudulent mobile activities, and strengthening national digital infrastructure.
Consumers are encouraged to act promptly to avoid disruption in services and to comply fully with the new regulatory measures.
