The National Coordinator of the National Elections Watch (NEW), Rev. James Lahai, has expressed concern over what he describes as a deliberate effort to exclude the organisation from discussions and engagements related to the ongoing Tripartite Committee process.
Speaking in an interview with Truth Media, Rev. Lahai said NEW has not been involved in any of the Tripartite Committee conversations, nor is the organisation represented in the Tripartite Steering Committee.
According to him, this exclusion limits NEW’s ability to contribute its expertise and independent electoral oversight to the ongoing review process.
Rev. Lahai further noted that the Tripartite process appears to be experiencing challenges, describing it as going “back and forth” and giving the impression that it is “not moving forward.” While he did not provide specific details on the causes of the delays, he suggested that the lack of inclusion of key stakeholders may be affecting progress.
NEW, one of Sierra Leone’s prominent civil society organisations involved in election observation, has played a longstanding role in monitoring electoral processes and advocating for transparency and accountability.
The organisation maintains that broader participation in national electoral dialogue is essential for building trust and strengthening democratic reforms.
The situation continues to attract interest from civil society groups and citizens who are following developments around electoral reforms and national dialogue.
