The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) on Monday 11th of August 2025, officially opened a new sub-office in Mile 91 Town, Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.
This development is part of the institution’s efforts to bring vital civil registration services closer to local communities. Strategically located on Magburaka Road, Masorie, formerly Mix point, close to the Magistrate Court, the sub-office aims to improve access to essential services, particularly in obtaining the National Community ID Card.
NCRA Director General Mohamed Mubashir Massaquoi emphasized the importance of collaboration with local communities, councillors, members of parliament, institutional heads, and civil society organizations to fulfill this vision. “The NCRA is dedicated to proposing effective solutions for civil registration through our community partnerships,” he stated. “We encourage our staff to maintain these collaborative efforts, particularly in areas where NCRA does not yet have offices, to ensure that our services reach the doorsteps of all the people of Sierra Leone.”
The establishment of the sub-office is expected to have a significant impact on the community. It will alleviate the economic burden and travel risks associated with civil registration, ensure that everyone in Sierra Leone has access to essential services, particularly in obtaining the National ID Card, and enhance the registration process for vital events, including births, deaths, marriages, and divorces.

The NCRA’s efforts to engage with local communities and stakeholders have been instrumental in promoting civil registration in Tonkolili District. According to Abdul Rahim Sheriff, NCRA Tonkolili District Registration Officer, community stakeholders, including Paramount Chiefs, Town and Village Chiefs, and councillors, have been frequently engaged and convinced to own the registration process, positively triggering enthusiasm to register.
The opening of the Mile 91 sub-office marks a significant milestone in NCRA’s vision of promoting effective civil registration. NCRA remains committed to working hand in hand with the citizens of Sierra Leone to enhance access to these essential services. Sheriff expressed appreciation for the collective efforts made thus far, saying, “Thanks to everyone involved, we are on the path to achieving what once seemed unattainable. Plans are underway to extend our services to more areas, ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of our community.”
The initiative by NCRA is welcome by the members of the community, and residents have voluntarily visited the centre to obtain their National ID cards. Paramount Chief Bai Sebora Thelleh III expressed gratitude to NCRA and the Government of Sierra Leone for the bold step in alleviating the suffering of his people who had been travelling to Magburaka to obtain ID cards. As the custodian of the land, PC Sebora Thelleh assured NCRA of his commitment to supporting the operations of the organisation in the community.
