The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has issued a public warning against an unauthorized group attempting to distribute National Identity Cards in the Bango Farm area of Adonkia.
The NCRA released a statement on March 29th, expressing its dismay over an audio message circulating in the community, which directed residents to assemble at R.E.C Primary School to apply for and collect ID cards.
The authority clarified that it is the sole entity mandated to print and distribute National Identity Cards throughout Sierra Leone and has not authorized any group to conduct such activities in Adonkia.
“Whosoever complies with that audio message encouraging people to obtain their National Identity Card from R.E.C Primary School in Adonkia does so at his or her own peril,” the NCRA stated.
The authority emphasized that the only legitimate locations for ID services are the official NCRA offices located in each district, including Bonthe Island. They further clarified that any future outreach efforts involving community-based ID services would be announced via formal public notices and conducted exclusively by NCRA staff.
The NCRA described the group involved in the unauthorized distribution and alleged extortion of money as “misguided individuals engaged in criminal activities.”
The authority reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its services, including the ID card process, and ensuring the protection of personal data. They urged residents to utilize official NCRA channels for ID card applications and services.
How comes they were able to get such machines to make the ID card 🪪 , oh Sierra Leone.
