The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has as advised Freetown residents to be vigilant and adapt precautionary measures within their communities, adding that those who are in low lying areas or in prone communities should voluntarily relocate to safer areas.
NDMA released this statement following reports of flooding in different parts of capital, triggered by heavy and continuous downpour of rains.
It is already reported that the raging floods have resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of houses, road networks, and other valuable properties worth millions of Leones.
Check out NDMA statement below:
“It has been raining since the early hours of today, August 28th 2022. Thus, the NDMA has received reports of increased water levels which has caused some areas/cluttered communities to flood and others with high likelihood of flooding.
While the NDMA is waiting to get the official weather forecast from the Sierra Leone Metrological Agency for today, the public is advised to be vigilant and adapt precautionary measures within their communities. Those who are in low lying areas or in prone communities should voluntarily relocate to safer areas.”
