The Executive Director of the National Elections Watch (NEW), Marcella Samba-Sesay, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Gevao, demanding that he retract statements she claims were defamatory.
The ultimatum was issued on Wednesday, 5th March 2026, following remarks allegedly made by the lawmaker during a radio discussion. Samba-Sesay maintained that the statements made against her character were unacceptable and should be reversed within the stipulated period.
She warned that failure to retract the comments within 72 hours would compel her to take further action, although she did not immediately specify the nature of the steps she intends to pursue.
In a Facebook post addressing the issue, Samba-Sesay also criticized Radio Democracy 98.1 FM for allowing its platform to be used in what she described as an attack on her reputation.
“Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, I hope you realized the classless and unprofessional level you degenerated to when you traded your space to a Member of Parliament to defame my character,” she wrote.
She further warned that she would not allow her reputation to be used as material for defamatory content, stressing the need for adherence to professional standards in media practice.
“Hang on a second, I’ll teach you how not to make my person a content for defamation. There is something called media code of ethics,” she added in the post.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no public response from Gevao regarding the ultimatum issued by the NEW Executive Director.
The development has drawn attention within media and civil society circles, with observers awaiting the response of the lawmaker and any further action that may follow if the ultimatum expires without a retraction.
