An American cable news, political opinion commentary, and digital media company, Newsmax media, Inc. has on the 9th March 2024 played host to Sierra Leone’s First Lady Fatima Bio in New York on a discussion that was focused at women and girls empowerment and total protection in Sierra Leone.

First Lady Fatima Bio urged women worldwide to unite and demand opportunities and spaces to inspire other women to raise their voices on issues affecting women and girls. She highlighted the importance of women coming together to advocate for gender equality and empowerment.

She further shared insights into the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign, which focuses on combating issues such as rape, early marriage, and teenage pregnancy, as well as sharing her personal story of being forced into marriage with her own uncle at the tender age of 11, shedding light on the harsh realities faced by many young girls globally.

She emphasised the progress made in addressing gender-based violence by collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

She added that, most of the achievements were related to a constant engaging with key stakeholders and implementing stringent measures that were aimed at creating a safer environment for women and girls in Sierra Leone and beyond.

She expressed commitment to her fight for women and girls in the country and beyond as part of her daily campaign.
