The Sierra Leone Police have arrested a Nigerian national at Freetown International Airport after discovering 46 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, authorities confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Patrick Nonso, was detained on Sunday, 22 February 2026, during routine airport checks. Police said Nonso was carrying an Italian passport at the time of his arrest.
Nonso is currently in police custody and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities have opened an inquiry to determine the origin of the suspected narcotics and whether other individuals are involved.
No formal charges have yet been announced. Forensic analysis is underway to confirm the composition and weight of the seized substance, and investigators are reviewing travel and immigration records as part of the probe.
Airport security officials reportedly cooperated fully with the operation, following standard procedures for handling suspected controlled substances. Police have promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
