Chief Director of Energy at the Ministry of Energy, Ing. Benjamin Kamara,has on behalf of the Minister of Energy commissioned a 50Kw solar mini grid facility at Njala University,Makonde Campus,Moyamba district.

Welcoming the high-powered delegation from the Ministry of Energy and the Africa Union Development Agency-NEPAD,Professor Mohamed Fofanah said they at the Makonde Campus had been yearning for the mini grid,adding that the project was critical to ensuring and expanding the stable and reliable supply of electricity on campus.

He said the 50Kw in addition to the existing 100Kw would positively impact learning, administrative and research endeavours. He lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and AUDA-NEPAD.

Delivering his keynote address, Chief Director of Energy, Ing. Benjamin Kamara, extended the Ministry’s appreciation to the entire management of the Njala University for collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and AUDA for the successful implementation of the project.

He said the Ministry of Energy had launched the energy revolution some few years ago,adding that that launch had culminated into the signing of a compact agreement between the Governments of Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom.

Ing. Kamara spoke about conscious and sustained efforts in the mini grid space,highlighting successes in the domain and informing the gathering about a lot of mini grid packages that were on course to be implemented in different parts of the country.

He said the commissioning of the 50Kw solar mini grid was a demonstration of Sierra Leone’s commitment to complying with the Paris Climate Agreement,noting that Sierra Leone was well on course to satisfying the carbon footprint chain.

Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University,Professor Bashiru Koroma,said his institution was happy that it had got an additional 50Kw of solar mini grid,adding that such an accomplishment was as a result of a frank collaboration and interfacing between Njala University and other institutions.

He spoke about the place and prominence of Njala University within local an international educational matrixes and humbly appealed to the Ministry of Energy for the provision of a 1Kw solar electricity.

Director of Aptech Africa,Awet Afewerk Dedessai,spoke about the work of his company and expressed delight at the completion of the project.
