Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim, has officially assumed the role of non-resident High Commissioner to New Zealand.

The formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand, took place at the Government House in Wellington.

During the ceremony, Dr. Karim conveyed warm greetings from Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. Governor-General Kiro welcomed Dr. Karim, expressing optimism about the potential for cooperation in various sectors.

The event, marked by a guard of honour from the New Zealand Defence Force, was attended by senior government officials, traditional leaders, and media representatives. Following the formalities, Dr. Karim signed the Guest Book at the President’s Residence, symbolizing the start of his diplomatic duties in New Zealand.

Dr. Karim, who is also accredited to ten other countries, later met with the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, furthering his commitment to diplomatic engagement. This appointment highlights Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international relationships and promote national interests abroad.
