The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has modernised tax collection with digital filing and mobile payment systems, Commissioner General Jeneba Bangura announced at the Civic Festival.
Through the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), taxpayers can now file returns and pay electronically, reducing delays and enhancing transparency. Bangura noted that services once handled manually are now digitised, making compliance easier and more efficient.
Speaking on the third day of the festival, Commissioner Bangura highlighted the Authority’s achievements in overhauling outdated systems. “Last year, if you wanted to take care of your vehicle or pay your taxes, including income tax, you had to do everything manually,” she said. “Now, with wallet money and mobile money, payments can be made electronically. We have digitised a lot of payments that are used as services,” she added, underscoring the push toward a fully electronic tax ecosystem.
Despite the progress, frequent electricity outages remain a major challenge, often disrupting filings and forcing taxpayers to restart processes. Bangura stressed that while digitisation is transforming efficiency, reliable infrastructure is essential to sustain progress.
