At the Ministry of Information’s Weekly Press Conference, Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura, Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), outlined key strategies aimed at boosting revenue generation. She provided updates on the Authority’s initiatives to enhance revenue collection and accelerate digital transformation.
Accompanied by Financial Secretary Matthew Dingie and a representative from the Parliamentary Oversight Committee, Mrs. Bangura detailed reforms focused on tax compliance, operational efficiency, and overall revenue performance.
Mrs. Kpaka Bangura highlighted 21 strategic measures designed to optimize revenue collection, particularly through partnerships with external stakeholders at the ports. She reported that the NRA had achieved 99% of its 2024 revenue target, attributing this success to key reforms implemented by the Authority.
She further noted that revenue collection had increased by 100% since 2022, reflecting the NRA’s commitment to financial discipline and sustainable economic growth. Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to surpassing its 2024 revenue targets, she emphasized the importance of public cooperation and compliance.
Addressing public concerns, the Commissioner General reassured citizens that no new taxes had been introduced. Instead, the NRA remains focused on enhancing efficiency and tax compliance. She emphasized the civic duty of taxpayers, urging businesses and individuals to request and issue GST receipts to promote transparency and accountability.
Mrs. Kpaka Bangura also highlighted the NRA’s digital transformation, noting that it had eliminated outdated manual processes, leading to improved efficiency and service delivery. She mentioned ongoing collaborations with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure the seamless integration of digital reforms.
Encouraging the public to embrace digitalization, she stressed that a cashless economy is the future of revenue administration, improving tax collection and financial management.
