The National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA) has moved a step closer to completing its next five-year roadmap, following a major validation session held on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the Agency’s Conference Room.
Rather than simply reviewing policy drafts, Wednesday’s gathering became a larger conversation on the future of Sierra Leone’s water security, as sector specialists, institutional partners, and technical experts examined the Agency’s Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for 2026-2030.
The draft SDP-intended to guide national water governance over the coming years-sets out ambitious targets in climate resilience, institutional strengthening, sustainable water management, and nationwide reforms. But stakeholders emphasized that the plan must keep pace with the country’s evolving environmental pressures.
In his opening remarks, Director General Ing. Pierre Palmer highlighted the collective responsibility involved in shaping the document. He praised participants as representing “some of the best minds in Sierra Leone’s water and natural resources sector,” urging them to interrogate every section to ensure the plan reflects both national priorities and modern global standards.
The session featured technical reviews, detailed presentations, and group breakout discussions focused on bridging policy gaps and improving the coordination required for effective water governance. Participants stressed that inclusive consultations like this are crucial for long-term sustainability, especially as communities become increasingly vulnerable to climate-driven water challenges.

With the validation now completed, NWRMA will refine the document ahead of its official launch. Once adopted, the 2026-2030 SDP is expected to serve not only as an internal guide for the Agency but also as a national reference point for strengthening Sierra Leone’s water resources management system and building resilience in the face of environmental change.
