Orange Digital Centre has officially launched its Free Coursera Training Program for Journalists, following a successful orientation session held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Orange Sierra Leone Digital Centre, 1 Alpha Wurie Drive, Hill Station, Freetown.

The initiative marks the beginning of a transformative learning journey designed to strengthen digital, professional, and technical competencies within Sierra Leone’s media sector.

The orientation session introduced participants to the structure, objectives, and expected outcomes of the online training program.

Facilitators provided practical guidance on navigating the Coursera learning platform, outlining available courses, learning schedules, and best practices for maximizing the benefits of self-paced learning while effectively managing professional responsibilities.

The event opened with a welcome address by, Danetta Younge General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, who reaffirmed Orange’s commitment to capacity building, digital inclusion, and professional development. She emphasized the importance of equipping journalists with modern digital skills to support ethical reporting, innovation, and credibility in an increasingly digital and competitive media environment.

Additional remarks were delivered by Annie Wonnie Katta, Director of Orange Foundation, who highlighted the Foundation’s sustained investment in education, digital skills development, and community empowerment. She encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that continuous learning is critical to remaining relevant and competitive in today’s evolving media industry.

The session also featured contributions from representatives of Truth Media, Liberty Online TV, The Times Newspaper, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), and the Independent Media Commission (IMC). Drawing on their professional experiences, the speakers motivated participants to approach the program with discipline, commitment, and a growth-oriented mindset, emphasizing how enhanced digital competencies can improve storytelling, expand audience engagement, and support career advancement.

In his closing remarks, Steven Caulker (Dictionary), a beneficiary of previous Orange Coursera online courses, expressed appreciation to Orange Sierra Leone for its continued investment in youth empowerment. He noted orange trainings had created meaningful impact, improved livelihoods, and opened new professional opportunities, encouraging participants to fully utilize the program.
