Orange, Sierra Leone’s leading mobile telecommunications provider, marked its 12th Ethics and Compliance Day with a ceremony at its headquarters in Freetown.
The event underscored the company’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and adhering to national and international laws within the telecommunications industry. Danetta Younge, in her welcoming remarks, emphasized the significance of these values in setting Orange apart from its competitors.
Chief Executive Officer Sekou Amadu Bah highlighted the company’s dedication to becoming a compliance-focused organization. He stressed the importance of trust, integrity, and commitment in guiding Orange’s operations. “Our dedication to making legal and moral decisions, even when no one is watching, exemplifies our sacred responsibility to act with transparency and honesty,” he said.
Bah emphasized that every employee plays a vital role in upholding these standards and shaping how Orange engages with its stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to the team for their contributions to the company’s success.
The CEO also discussed the importance of ethics, stating that it is better to lose without ethics than to win without them. He outlined key themes such as attention to detail and compliance with laws, urging employees to lead by example.
Chiekh D. Mbaye addressed the issue of conflict of interest, emphasizing the importance of declaring any such conflicts to maintain the organization’s ethical integrity. He discussed specific guidelines, including restrictions on vendor relationships and partnerships with Orange Money dealers.
Ibrahim Sorie ESQ elaborated on the importance of compliance with laws, focusing on ethical issues like sexual offenses, data protection, and environmental and labor laws.
The event concluded with a presentation by James Tengbeh from the National Revenue Authority on standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the workplace, leadership, and risk assessment. He stressed the importance of discipline in tying these aspects together for organizational success.
