As the Njala University, School of Community Health Science in Bo, on a notice issued out on Saturday the 22nd October, 2022, announced the successful applicants shortlisted for interview to the Department of Nursing, only 41 applicants were shortlisted for interview after successfully gone through the written entrance examination.
Out of the 200 successful WASSCE Students that had gone through this written entrance examination, 159 did not pass.
And according to sources within the university, it was the same questions that they answered in the WASSCE that was given to them in the entrance examination. But surprisingly, the same students that got As and Bs failed woefully.
This years WASSCE results was one of the best recorded in the country and according to the Higher and Technical Education Minister, Professor Alhaji Tejan Wurie, a total of thirty two thousand (32000) students applied for admission to the University of Sierra Leone (USL) and Njala University.
He disclosed that Njala University had eight thousand (8000) applicants whilst USL, which comprises of Fourah Bay College, COMAS, and IPAM, had twenty four thousand (24000) applicants.
Because of this large number, the entrance examination was introduced to screen them before admitted into the university.
This is what happens when people glorify grades above a thorough learning experience. The quality of education is poor and there’s no reading culture but rather a social culture that keeps demeaning the previously education glory of this country
