The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament presented its report on the Auditor General’s Findings for the fiscal years 2021 and 2022, showcasing critical issues of poor financial management and progress in accountability.

Hon. PC, Desmond Mahayei Kargobai, Deputy PAC Chairman, submitted the report on behalf of Deputy Speaker and PAC Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh.

He stated that the conclusions came from comprehensive public hearings held in Freetown and regional offices, during which the PAC investigated Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Local Councils, Public Enterprises, and Donor-Funded Projects.

The study addresses issues such as revenue irregularities, procurement breaches, payroll abnormalities, and poor project execution, all of which were evaluated in conformity with the Sierra Leone Constitution (Act No. 6 of 1991) and the Parliament’s Standing Orders (Revised 2006).

The PAC’s oversight was known for recovering more than NLe 23 million and resolving 70.2% of audit queries, indicating an enhancement in accountability and cautious spending through collaboration and remedial measures.

Hon. Kargobai thanked the Auditor General’s Office, PAC members, the Secretariat, and all cooperating institutions for their efforts in the review process.

He then formally submitted the report to Parliament for consideration and adoption. The results of the PAC confirm Sierra Leone’s Parliament’s commitment to openness, budgetary restraint, and good governance
