The Parliamentary Legislative Committee Gender and Children Affairs Committee is set to discuss the repeal of the Child Right Act of 2007 and the Children and Young Persons Act.

During the discussion, the Child Right Coalition proposed the abolition of child marriage and that any supporter of child marriage in any form must be brought to the book.

It was also proposed that children facing the laws of the land must have a child-friendly environment as the arrest, police custody, trial, and detention should be child friendly, adding that educational accessibility should be provided to children while in detention.

Minister of Gender and Children Affairs, Manty Tarawallie appreciated the Child Right Coalition, stating that she is delighted with the proposed changes, adding that her ministry will protect the right of children in Sierra Leone.

It was stated that the Legislative Committee will review the document and ensure it is passed into law before parliament will dissolve.
