The Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Cultural Affairs has lauded Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis for her accomplishments during her brief tenure, and pledged their support for her vision.
The committee met with the Minister and her team in Parliament to discuss the ministry’s progress and future plans.
Hon. Tom Issic Tucker, Chairman of the committee and moderator of the meeting, emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between the Ministry and Parliament, aligning with Parliament’s oversight responsibilities.
Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis expressed her gratitude for the committee’s willingness to collaborate. She provided a comprehensive overview of the Ministry’s current state, outlining achievements, challenges, and future strategies. The Minister also acknowledged the crucial role played by Ministry staff and agency personnel in the progress made.
The meeting served as a platform to solidify cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, particularly regarding the development of Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
Attendees included key figures from the Ministry and its subvented agencies: Permanent Secretary Edward Kwame Yankson, Director of Culture Creativity and Innovation Foday Jalloh, Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Programs Mohamed Jalloh, General Manager of the National Tourist Board Fatmata Carew, and Chairperson and Admin Manager of the Monuments and Relics Commission Joseph Kaifala and Ann Marie Kamara, respectively. Senior staff members from the Ministry, the Monuments and Relics Commission, the National Tourist Board, and the Sierra Leone National and Railway Museums were also present.
