The Parliament of Sierra Leone has enacted a comprehensive set of bills across major sectors during the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic.
The legislative session, which ran from August 2024 to August 2025, was presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Segepoh Solomon Thomas.
Furthermore, Lawmakers established the Tertiary Education Commission Act 2025, creating a regulatory body to oversee the country’s tertiary education sector. The Sierra Leone Railway Development and Regulatory Authority Act 2025 was enacted to develop and manage the national railway system.
In the social services domain, the Parliament passed the Professional Social Work Regulatory Act 2025, providing for the oversight and regulation of the social work profession. Legislators also ratified the Investment Framework Agreement (Ratification) Act 2025 to facilitate and attract foreign direct investment.
Also, new laws are the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission Act 2025, setting up a regulatory body for the electricity and water sectors.
Other key legislation enacted includes the National Youth Service Amendment Act 2024, the National Youth Commission Amendment Act 2024, the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority Amendment Act 2024, the Finance Act 2025, the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education Act 2025, the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Act 2025, the Child Rights Act 2025, and the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission Act 2025.
According to Parliament, the passage of this legislative agenda is seen as a major step forward in Sierra Leone’s development efforts, as the government works to strengthen key institutions and drive progress across vital economic and social sectors.
