Sierra Leone’s Parliament has directed mobile network operators Africell and Orange to reverse their recent changes to data bundles and restore the popular Le60 weekly data plan within 24 hours.
The decision was issued on Friday, November 7th, 2025, during a parliamentary session where mobile operators were summoned to explain recent adjustments to their data services. The changes had sparked public concern, particularly among students who rely on affordable data for their education.
The key point of contention was the effective discontinuation of the Le 60 weekly data bundle, a move critics argue was implemented without adequate public notice or consultation.
During the parliamentary review, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, voiced strong dissatisfaction, focusing on the social cost of the price change.
He emphasized that the previous Le 60 weekly data bundle was crucial for students who depend on it for their schoolwork. Kargbo asserted that the increase would negatively affect their studies and directly called on Africell and Orange to immediately review their new data prices.
Orange Sierra Leone had previously announced the discontinuation of the Le 60 bundle, migrating customers to a Le 100 weekly plan with a faster speed (2Mbps). Africell replaced its unlimited weekly plan with a five-day, 2Mbps unlimited bundle priced at Le 80.
When questioned by the parliamentary committee about the reason for the change, Sekou Amadou Bah, Director General of Orange Sierra Leone, maintained that the companies had not raised the price for data itself.
Instead, he explained that the companies regulate data tariffs and services, which can affect the speed of the data a customer purchases, suggesting the new plans offered increased speed and value. Both companies have previously defended the restructuring as a necessary move to improve network speed, quality, and manage congestion.
Despite the explanation, the committee remained resolute in its demand for consumer protection.
In his concluding remarks on the issue, the committee chairman, Hon. Boston Munda, issued an order to the mobile network operators. He directed them to revert the weekly data price to the old rate within the next 24 hours.

That will be fine if they reverse it to the old le60
We are happy to hear such news but the root of the problem is not Orange and Africell. The poor services and unjust increase in tariffs we are experiencing today from thse mobile companies is as a result of the selfish nature of our leaders especially NATCOM. These companies have promised Sierra Leoneans to improve on their network several times yet still, their services keep deprecating.
The leaders are dishonest to the general public
Just take a look, since the final decision have been declared in parliament..by Hon. Boston nothing has been in the last 24hrs inother to get back where we’re….”oh our law or decision makers of Sierra Leone if you continues to make the people uncomfortable in their own country, there will be a time you guys will be ruling the old people.because there will be a time all the strong men and women will run away out of the country”.
Even as a father of a family , you never learn to encourage your child or children they will go away someday.and the empty house 🏠 will be yours with loneliness… We geh for lef dis country na una han wan day….
Dis na di onli tin we a want fɔ yɛri tɛnki
Sierra Leone can only prosper if we revert to having a prime minister who control the running of the country, were in a party needs to have 2/3 of popular vote to form a government,This can only happen with SLPP and APC forming a government. Imagine having the best of SLPP and APC running thing instead of selfish party loyals being put at possitions that they known nothing of
God bless you Honourable of the opposition, may God reachly blessed you
The unjustifiable increments in data charges is a wickedness. Thanks to Parliament for swift intervention. Parliament should even consider reduction from previous prices for citizenry satisfaction.
Good news from honourable Abdul Kargbo and Honourable Boston Munda, infact the instruction should not only be to revert , but to monitor the quality of their network services , of recent the NLe 100.00 for 2 Mbps has nothing good to write home about, like said by Edmond Abu , these two companies are cooperate gangstars , that are hell bent on disadvantaging citizens of their legal entitlements.
NATCA and parliamentary oversight committee should also ensure that the quality of the services provided by these MNOs are in consonance with their adverts.
They two MNOs should even compensate us , as the whole of last week , their internet system for both the 2mbps and the 1 Mbps was a disgusting and messy .
That’s awesome
Oh , Mr opposition leader, may God reachly blessed you for your good representations especially for we the less privilege
