The Parliament of Sierra Leone ratified the Project Preparation Facility for the Sierra Leone Rural Electricity Access Project (SLREAP) on Thursday, the 10th July 2025.
Ministry of Energy wishes to inform the General Public that the Parliament of Sierra Leone has ratified an African Development Bank (ADB) Project Preparation Facility dedicated to developing the Bo-Mile 91 interconnection and designed to benefit some 60 communities and 50,000 people.
The Project Preparation Facility (PPF) will support the Government of Sierra Leone in preparing the Sierra Leone Rural Electrification Access Project (SLREAP), including feasibility study, technical design, and environmental impact assessments.
Also, the Ministry further wishes to inform the General Public that the project will positively impact the country’s energy landscape as it will ensure the electrification of more than 60 communities through the provision of.
8 new 66/33 kv substations2 new 33/11ky substations
150/33 0.4 kV distribution substations
350 km of 66 kV transmission lines
400km of 33kV distribution lines
50,000 customer lines; and
public lighting and social infrastructure.
Additionally, when fully developed, the SLREAP will represent an estimated US $ 100,000,000 strategic investment in Sierra Leone’s energy future and will also strategically align with Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan, the AfDB’s Country Strategy Paper(2020-2024), and the AfDB’s Energy Policy, Gender Strategy and Climate Change Action Plan (2020-2031).

And the Government of Sierra Leone is contributing NLE 6,080,960.00, which is equivalent to USD 262,000.00, towards the project.
The Ministry assures all that it remains committed to creating the enabling environment for investments in the energy sector.
