The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Wednesday, February 15th 2023 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) for a student internship programme, spanning a period of four years.
The ceremony which took place at the Speaker’s Board Room, Parliament Building at Tower Hill in Freetown, attracted very important personalities including the Director General of Parliament, Mrs Finda Fraser, the Director of Human Resource Parliament of Sierra Leone, Abubakarr Charm, the Director, Center for Strategy and Parliamentary Studies, Mohamed Jalloh, Director of Parliamentary and Public Public Relations, Sheku Lamin Turay, the Vice Chancellor and Principal, University of Sierra Leone, Prof. Foday Sahr, the DVC, IPAM, the Head of Department Leadership and Sustainable Development, Dr. Falla Lamin, the Deputy Registrar, Munda J.S. Lebbie and the Director of Public Relations University of Sierra Leone, James Tamba Lebbie.
Speaking on behalf of the Clerk and the Leadership of Parliament, the Director General of Parliament said the purpose of the ceremony was to sign an MoU with the University in order to enable the latter to be sending their students on internship programme to Parliament. The Director General also informed that, in accordance with the MoU, IPAM would be sending ten (10) students on internship to Parliament yearly, for an attachment and provision of support to the Members of Parliament and other departments within the Administration of Parliament.
“We are delighted to work with IPAM”, she stated with enthusiasm and went on to wish the process a positive outcome. The Director General also expressed hope that, if all goes well, the MoU would exceed the four year as stipulated and said that the programme is part of the development agenda of the country, particularly human capital development.
Speaking on behalf of IPAM, Dr Falla Lamin expressed happiness over the signing of the MoU by Parliament and IPAM with the view of creating a formidable platform for students to learn and gain experience to enable them contribute to nation building and the development of their communities.
Dr. Lamin assured the witnesses that, the relationship would yield dividends and endure for years. According to him, his department prides itself on nation building and expressed appreciation over the signing of the MoU.
The Director General signed on behalf of Parliament and the VC & Principal signed on behalf of IPAM and was witnessed by three senior citizens from both institutions.
