Gilbert Zhao, CEO of Leone Rock Metal Group, has been summoned by the Sixth Parliament of Sierra Leone following allegations of labor rights violations at the company’s operations in Tonkolili District.
The Speaker, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, announced the summons amidst concerns over social and traditional media reports accusing the company of flouting labor laws and mistreating Sierra Leonean workers, including claims of racial discrimination and modern-day slavery.
Zhao is expected to appear before Parliament on Monday 17th July 2024 to address these allegations and provide clarifications, ensuring transparency and accountability in the proceedings.
I hope justice will be there. These so called Chinese have no respect for we The Nationals. It seems as if we have sold the country to them. Please government, make them to realize that they are foreign investors. They should abide by the norms of the nation.
