Members of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Energy have paid a courtesy call on Energy Minister, Alhaji Dr. Kanja Sesay, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between the two arms of government and to introduce new members of the Committee drawn from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party, SLPP, and the opposition All People’s Congress, APC.

Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Hon. Kekura Vandi, said they had called at Electricity House because they wanted to thank the Minister for collaborating with the Oversight Committee and for valuing its inputs towards reforms in the sector.

He said the Committee now had new members drawn from both the SLPP and the APC,noting that as Chairman of the Oversight Committee he felt obligated to lead the team because he wanted the new members to acquaint themselves with the energy terrain and to have firsthand assessment of policies and tangible development in the sector.

Hon. Kekura Vandi praised the Minister for always keeping his doors open to the Committee, adding that the working relationship between the Ministry of Energy and the Parliamentary Committee on Energy has been the envy of many a Committee in parliament.

Deputy Minority Leader,Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, described Dr. Sesay as a modest, forthright, easygoing and visionary administrator, stressing that the Minister has always stayed above board or enjoyed a clean slate in the politics of Sierra Leone.

Energy Minister, Alhaji Dr. Kanja Sesay, thanked and expressed his appreciation to the team for the visit.

He called on new members of the Committee to emulate Hon. Kekura Vandi’s passion for development in the energy sector and to tap into his vast and rich experience in the sector. Dr. Sesay assured that his Ministry would continue to collaborate with Parliament and local and international development partners.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked, reforms continue in the sector.
