Ahead of this year’s International Workers’ Day celebrations, President Julius Maada Bio met with the executive of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress to discuss recent changes made to labour laws in the country.

The meeting, which President Bio described as inspiring and full of energy, focused on new steps taken to improve worker protection and rights. Both sides spoke about how these changes are helping to make working life better for people across Sierra Leone.

President Bio said he was pleased with the progress made so far and looked forward to joining workers on May 1st. “I can’t wait to celebrate their hard work and dedication,” he said in a message shared after the meeting. “Let’s make it a memorable day for all our incredible workers.”

International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day, is a public holiday in Sierra Leone. It is held every year on May 1st to honour the role of workers in building the country.

The meeting took place just days before the national celebration, showing the continued link between the government and labour groups as they work to support the people.
